20 Years... by Cashana
When I am doubting myself and thinking I haven’t done enough to cement my legacy and I must shake that negativity off. I started a group 20 years ago with 10 newsletters. I brought together a group of African-American women who were diverse in life and experiences to discuss African American books. Even when I wanted to disband and give up, I was reminded The Imani Book Club is not just me it is all of us who came together for a common purpose but have become each other framily. Now, we may be a bit dysfunctional but what family isn’t?
I love the maturity of the group now. I love that each of you who took a chance on this group with me are here to share this with me. I love that no matter how hard life is kicking my ass right now, knowing I am going to see you guys to discuss my favorite past time, books, keeps me motivated. It also reminds me I have a legacy. I believe black women can come together for books but become framily as well. I believe in the power of written words which reflect Us because no one’s life is the same, but we all have experiences to share. The Imani Book Club is my legacy! And for me right now, that is enough.
